Spring 2010 Quilt Market - Schoolhouse Part Two

Schoolhouse continued....

Next up was Kathy Miller from Michael Miller talking about the latest in lifestyle trends - colors and prints.  Kathy told us that the biggest upcoming trends she foresees is white, white, and more white - in all shades of white from classic white to cream.  Words she used were: clean, natural and fresh.  Colors inspired by fresh breezes from the sea.

Their new line, The Antiquity Collection is stunning in person.  You cannot tell from the preview photos, but this new line has gorgeous metallics.  This line has shine and glitz.  They look like glitter prints, but the bling is beautifully woven and not simply sprinkled on there, I brushed my hand over the fabric briskly and there was no glitter on my hand.  This is very important to the mom of a princess.  This fabric is princess approved!

The entire collection took my breath away!  Very lovely!  Kathy also mentioned that new substrates are the future of quilting.  You know Micheal Miller has the highest quality cotton wovens, soon they will also offer high quality cotton knits from Patty Young.  (more on these particular knits in another post).  Kathy also mentioned Cotton Lawn appearing in future lines.  Cotton Lawn is similar to voile - lawn is less sheer than voile.  Other trends are Drawn Florals - like Peonies (I love Peonies!) - and she sees this as a trend for the next several years.

Rob Appell also spoke.  Rob is not your typical looking quilter, he looked like a rock n roll surfer.  No surprise, he is from Morro Bay, California!  Rob and Michael Miller have teamed up and released a line of Endangered Species Quilt Patterns.

These works of art are cut out and fused onto a solid background with Heat and Bond light and then free motion quilted.  I am not a quilter, but these quilts are so stunning, that I just may try one!
